Parkside Community Club Charitable Donations

Over the last 17 years alone, The Parkside Community Club has donated over $300,00.00 to other local charities, communities, and projects!

Take a look at some of the projects the Parkside Community Club has proudly contributed to.

Shellbrook Hospital Foundation

The neighboring community of Shellbrook was in urgent need of a new hospital and senior care facility. As a centralized hub serving many rural areas, Shellbrook Hospital provided essential emergency and healthcare services. With the old facility no longer viable, the Parkside Community Club made supporting the Shellbrook Hospital Foundation a top fundraising priority for several years. We were proud to contribute to the successful opening of the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in 2013, which now serves as both a hospital and long-term care home.

Shellbrook Doctor Recruitment Program

Following the construction of the new hospital and a growing local population, securing reliable healthcare services became a key focus. The Doctor Recruitment Program was launched to attract international physicians to practice in Shellbrook. The initiative was highly successful, resulting in increased physician availability and reduced wait times for both appointments and emergency care.

Village of Parkside Support

With a population of approximately 110, Parkside is a small village where every contribution counts. The Community Club has supported the Village through donations for maintenance and utility expenses at the Demolition Derby Grounds and the Parkside Heritage Centre. We've also contributed to Canada Day celebrations and other community improvement projects as needs arise.

Give a Little Life Day

Each year, the Victoria Hospital Foundation in nearby Prince Albert hosts a radio marathon to raise funds for essential medical equipment. Parkside Community Club has proudly contributed to this annual campaign, helping improve healthcare for the broader region.

Canwood Bus Association

In the nearby town of Canwood, the Whispering Pines senior citizens' home established a fund to purchase a wheelchair-accessible bus and shelter. This bus is used for resident outings and is also available to neighboring communities. The Parkside Community Club supported this important initiative.

Shellbrook Recreation Centre Upgrades

The Shellbrook Recreation Centre serves a wide range of organizations and surrounding communities. We’ve contributed to fundraising efforts for essential facility upgrades, including a new Zamboni, ice plant, cement flooring, boards, chiller, and piping system.

Shellbrook Basketball Team

We provided a donation toward the purchase of new glass backboards for the Shellbrook High School gymnasium, supporting youth athletics and school spirit.

Youth Group Support

Donations have been made to the Parkside Pentecostal and Parkside Lutheran youth groups to assist with their missions and activities.

Hockey Day in Shellbrook

As part of our continued support for recreational facilities and programs, we sponsored “Hockey Day in Shellbrook,” a fundraising event for the local rink.

Saskatchewan Student Leadership Conference (2015)

In 2015, Shellbrook hosted the Saskatchewan Student Leadership Conference, welcoming over 600 students from across the province. The Parkside Community Club supported this week-long event, which featured motivational speakers, leadership development, and team-building activities designed to inspire the next generation of leaders.

Shellbrook Youth Travel Club

We partnered with students and parents from the Youth Travel Club, who worked canteen shifts at our Demolition Derby. Funds raised supported their educational field trip to Europe.

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation (Saskatoon)

In 2017, we built and decorated a demolition derby car that was auctioned off to raise money for Saskatchewan’s first-ever Children’s Hospital. The car raised $3,900, which we matched for a total donation of $7,800 to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Benevolent Fund

The Parkside Community Club maintains a benevolent fund to help families in times of hardship. Our support has gone to a wide range of needs, including medical travel for children, treatments for chronic illness, and emergency assistance for low-income families. Supporting our neighbors through difficult times is one of our most meaningful and important missions.

Parkside Heritage Centre Renovations

The Heritage Centre—our community’s main event venue—has received Club funding for major renovations, including kitchen upgrades and a new heating system. Plans are also in place to enhance the outdoor playground in the coming years.

AED Installation for the Village of Parkside

Recognizing the importance of emergency preparedness, we installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in the village to ensure quick response in critical situations, especially with the nearest hospital located 10 minutes away.

Parkside Outdoor Rink Project

The original outdoor rink, built years ago by volunteers, had fallen into disrepair. The Club stepped in to restore it, adding a heated warm-up shack, installing a direct water line for ice maintenance, and acquiring used boards from the Shellbrook Rec Centre. Future plans include paving the rink surface for improved durability.

School Snack Program

In partnership with the Kinsmen Kinettes, we contributed to a program providing healthy snacks to underprivileged students in our local elementary and high schools.

STARS Air Ambulance (2018)

We built and auctioned a “Joker”-themed demolition derby car in 2018 to raise funds for STARS Air Ambulance. The car sold for $6,700, and the Club donated an additional $3,300, for a total of $10,000 to support this life-saving service.

Honeywood Heritage Nursery

The Parkside Community Club provided funds to Honeywood Heritage Nursery, a nonprofit historical site, to purchase a large event tent. This tent helps ensure the success of their fundraising events, which are vital to the nursery’s continued operation.

Darrel Martin Memorial Scholarship

The Darrel Martin Memorial Scholarship was established by the Parkside Community Club in memory of our long-time member and cherished friend, Darrel Martin, who passed away in September 2022. Darrel was a dedicated and compassionate individual who made a lasting impact on our community. In his honor, this $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student currently enrolled at WP Sandin High School who has demonstrated outstanding volunteerism within the school, the local community, and surrounding areas. This scholarship reflects Darrel’s values of service, leadership, and commitment to making a difference.

Shellbrook Theatre Committee

The Shellbrook Theatre is a vibrant cultural hub in our community, providing a home for dance, music, drama, film, and the arts. As the facility ages, it is in urgent need of upgrades to continue serving as a gathering place for artistic expression and community events. Recognizing the importance of preserving this space, the Parkside Community Club proudly contributed a significant donation to support the theatre’s revitalization efforts and help launch the upgrade project.

SCC Playground Improvement Project

The playground at the middle years school has become worn down and no longer meets the needs of its growing student population. The School Community Council (SCC) has initiated a project to install new playground equipment, promoting active play and healthy development for children. The Parkside Community Club is pleased to support this initiative and contribute toward creating a safer, more engaging play environment for students.

Shellbrook and Area Ministerial Food Bank

The Shellbrook and Area Ministerial Food Bank plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity in our region, providing essential support to individuals and families in need. The Parkside Community Club proudly contributes financial assistance to this important service, ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.

Shell Lake Fire Department

The Shell Lake Fire Department provides critical emergency services and fire protection to our area. The Parkside Community Club supports their work and is committed to helping ensure they have the necessary resources and equipment to keep our community safe.

Telemiracle

Telemiracle is a long-standing Saskatchewan telethon and charitable fundraiser, dedicated to helping residents with special needs or medical expenses not covered by health care. Organized by the Kinsmen Foundation, Telemiracle supports thousands of individuals and families across the province. The Parkside Community Club is proud to contribute to this deeply meaningful and province-wide cause.

Cameo Vacation Bible School

The Cameo Vacation Bible School is a volunteer-led, week-long summer program for children aged 4 and up. With a focus on fun, learning, and faith, it offers an accessible and enriching experience for kids, made possible entirely through donations. The Parkside Community Club is happy to support this low-cost initiative that brings joy and community spirit to local families each August.

Canwood Regional Park – Spray Park Project

Canwood Regional Park is planning the exciting addition of a spray park, designed to provide children with a fun, safe way to cool off and play throughout the summer. Recognizing the benefits of outdoor recreation and family-friendly spaces, the Parkside Community Club is delighted to support this project with a contribution toward its development.

Parkland Pool Project

The Shellbrook Pool is a vital summer destination for families from Shellbrook and neighboring communities. It offers swimming lessons, fitness classes, private events, and serves as the training facility for the town's swim team. With the aging pool facility now in need of replacement, the Parkland Pool Project has been launched to build a new, modern aquatic center. Understanding its importance as a hub for health, recreation, and community connection, the Parkside Community Club made a significant donation to help kickstart this essential and ambitious undertaking.
